Raw's 1st episode of 2012 review (EP:972)

Raw's first episode of the new year 2012, was very anticipated by two events, the wwe title match and "the mystery return of a familiar face"

I'll start of with John Cena's promo at the very beginning. I am not a john cena fan myself, and neither were the majority of the fans. John and the wwe need to accept the fact that John Cena has become tiring as the poster boy of the WWE. CM punk, Randy Orton have been in the business almost as long as Cena has, time for Cena to become a heel, heck I'd respect him if he finally became dirty, in 2003 He was a heel, and had an epic rivalry with The Undertaker.
The promo began with Cena coming out wishing people had a happy new year, followed by him bragging about hustle loyalty and respect, yawn I see it on your T-Shirt Cena, enough already. Kane's music blasted out, which I actually was excited for, as I thought Kane would whoop Cena once again, however this was not the case. Instead Kane just spoke while his entrance movie played, not even a face shot of him on the titantron, just his voice. Kane said that Cena will embrace the hate and witness the true power of hate at the end of tonight's episode. Hmmm, well actually happened is that Cena, Zack Ryder and Big Show where scheduled to compete against Kane, Jack Swagger and Mark Henry in an 6-Man elimination tag team match, Oh boy! The main event came and oh what happened, Kane refused to participate. That is setting anything up is it? (!) This was so that Kane could ambush both Cena and Ryder, by rising from underneath the ring through a hole which was avoided throughout the match.. He choked Cena out for a good minute, well when I say choke  I mean he put his hand on his face and pretended to choke him. He then proceded to drag Ryder down to through the ring. Michael Cole quoted that this was the abyss, hmmm yeah WWE isn't real, but come on, do you realy expect people to believe that, come on now! Despite this, Cena prevented this by attacking Kane, he seemed to have no affects of being choked out, wow (!). After this an explosion was set of and a huge flame emerged from the ring. Now this just shows that WWE storylines are now based for little kids.

The WWE title match was a great contest, except the fact that during the match CM Punk delivered 5 consecutive running leg drops. Dolph rolled back into each one as Punk was running towards him. Now I know the fight is scripted, but Dolph, really, you feel the need to let 5 hit you. Don't get me wrong, Ziggler is probably the best wrestler in WWE, when I say wrestler, I mean actually wrestling, but please Dolph really. Anyway coming to the conclusion of the match, the top turnbuckle pad was removed, And the excecutive vice president of talent relations and interm GM of monday night RAW, mr creativity himself. John Laurinaitis, distracted the ref, while Ziggler tapped out to the anaconda vice. Mr Laurinaitis was then hit by a avoided punch by Ziggler, intended for Punk, however CM Punk ran towards Ziggler, who avoided him, and Punk fell outside the ring, because Laurinaitis held the ropes down while crying. CM Punk was unable to get in due to him hitting his shoulder against the floor, which was very well done by Punk very believable. Ziggler won by count out. As we all know and the commentators state numerous times when a challenger is outside, "The Title cannot be won via count out" (unless stated) Ziggler grabbed the championship and paraded around the crowd area, I just thought you dumb arrogant idiot, surely you know the rules. Laurinaitis the made a Royal Rumble main event match involving CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler for the WWE championship, because Ziggler had beaten punk on two occasions. WWE can go two ways with this, either Punk will win, and lose to Cena so that wrestlemania can go ahead, or Ziggler will win, have an arrogant short live run, similar to Del Rio's and lose to a face superstar, like hmmm, John Cena? of course it will be.

Wade Barrett came to the ring before his match with Santino, saying that he is done with Orton, because he threw him down the stairs during Smackdown's last 2011 episode in a falls count anywhere match. Yes Barrett, anyone can do that. But haven't you noticed that when superstars fall down the stairs, they are injured, and A while ago, The Legend Killer, Randy's Old persona, he threw Mick Foley down some stairs injuring him. We have found their weakness, forget steel stairs, chairs, ladders. Just drag your opponent to a flight of stairs and get rid. I thought it was funny as Barrett had no idea what to do then, he went down to see if Randy was ok, noticed the camera and ran back up. Well the match was another, let's grab a joke character, put him against a superstar we are trying to promote, let him look good beating the joker up. That was the case, yawn.

Sheamus was scheduled to compete against the Miz, as Laurinaitis made this match. Miz left the office saying he was a sitting duck to an R-Truth attack. Miz gained the first strike trapping sheamus' arm in the rops and stomping, this was quickly ended by sheamus who the delivered repeated blows to Miz's chest, or as I like to say, to quote Booker T: "The Irish hand grenades". Miz the dropped to the floor and hightaled it out through the crowd. Hmm I think that this is setting up an ambush, Oh wait it was. shocking (!) seeing as they had put 3 backstage skits of R Truth following Miz. As Miz tried to run back into the ring, to avoid Truth, he met a very realistic Brogue kick, by the great white, Sheamus. Truth grabbed a bottle of water and bashed it against Miz's head. WWE, one thing, bottles of water, even full ones, don't do as much damage, Miz seemed KO after that, even though he was just dizzy from a brogue kick. Sheamus, your wasting energy, grab a bottle of water next time you wanna finish a match.

The opening contest was D-Bry vs Cody Rhodes. This contest was to my liking, because it was a decent fight, probably the best match of the night. This is a real wrestling fans opinion, rather than the majority of people who enjoy unrealistic dribble during a match. D-Bry won, and stood victorious on the announcement table, much to cole's disliking.

The divas match was the bella's vs Kelly Kelly & Eve. One word Hot

Finally the anticipated return of a familiar face, however, fans all over the arena, had signs and banners with the same superstar's name on it: Y2J. The arena went dark, then blue lights appeared in the form of a man with his arms wide open, Which was Jericho's primary stance. It was no other than Chris Jericho, I was so pleased he returned. However, he did not do anything more than, high five and banter to the fans, hold a cheering competition. when he went up to the ramp, after about 10 minutes of that, he began to receive some boos. I wanted to hear his plans for what he was going to achieve with his return.

Overall I would give this weeks episode of RAW 5/10
(1 for the amazing D-Bry fight)
(2 for a diva match)
(3 for jericho's return)
(4 for WWE title match on RAW)
(5 for Cena sucks chants)
